Asian VR scene

May 23, 2017

Just last week we came back from a eye-opening trip to Asia, where together with other VR companies from the Nordics we visited VR/AR related companies, hubs and events in S.Korea, China, HK and Japan.

First part of the trip was organized by NordicReality.co led by Marie Claire Maxwell from Cloudberry.se - to whom i have to say a big thanks for doing such an amazing job with the organization!

In a series of posts i will be trying to catch-up on all the things that happen. (better later than never!)

First Stop Korea, Seoul

We did it ''Gangnam style'' spending most of our visit in that neighborhood and had the chance to take part in carrying the Olympic torch in a digital version of the upcoming winter Olympics at the Samsung center. Further we visited the more specialized offices of Foundry Asia and startup incubator Maru180, with talks from Swedish ambassador Niklas Kviselius and  Andrew D. Kim CEO of VR news site 87870.

It seems S.Korea is trying to diversify its technology sector, (which is largely dominated by Samsung) and trying to implement a start-up friendly ecosystem. Couple this with a close connection to Chinese markets and fast local adaptation of all things digital (goes double for games) and we have a great enviroment for VR startups to grow.
